Herbal supplements can be of benefit to fibromyalgia sufferers.  They can be taken orally or used in creams and lotions to eliminate pain.  Many individuals prefer to take a more natural way of taking care of their fibromyalgia symptoms.

Pain is the most prevalent of the symptoms and can be relieved by using a muscle rub that contains capsaicin that comes from Cayenne peppers.  Herbal supplements like peppermint, rosemary, geranium, and rose oils can be added to lotions, oils or creams and applied to the skin.  These oils can be used alone or in combination help provide pain relief.

Other herbal supplements like garlic, astralagus or enchinacea can be taken orally to help with circulation and boost your immune system.  Valerian root, skullcap and melatonin can help improve your sleep and ginseng or oils of peppermint, lemon, orange and grapefruit can help give you a mental and physical boost. Ginger helps with nausea, headaches, irritable bowel and muscle pain. It acts and an anti-inflammatory.  Olive leaf is an anti-bacterial and an anti-inflammatory.  Gotu Kola strengthens muscles and is an anti-inflammatory.  Tumeric is an anti-inflammatory and is rich in antioxidant

Grapefruit

These are all wonderful herbal supplements and can be used in combination to get the benefits you need.  Many of them can be used in conjunction with your prescription medications but it is extremely important that you discuss using them with your physician. You should also contact a homeopath (someone certified in the use of essential oils and herbs). The homeopath can fine tune the herbal supplements you need to give you the proper dosage of each.  Combining them on your own could result in some unpleasant side effects.Your physician and your homeopath can help guide you to the best combination for you and to tell you of any side effects you might experience.
